I have discovered the secret to eternal youth, or at least lifelong youth. Our scientists still puzzle over whether or not it is a genetic or cellular switch that causes us to age. Some believe it is simply the process of accumulation that makes us get old. Cells accumulate damage and damaging molecules. Day by day, bit by bit it all starts to add up, and perhaps that is how our bodies age.
Similarly, and in certain ways to our detriment, we accumulate knowledge and belief, in the form of memory upon memory. Neural pathways are formed and used and reused until they start to become neural ruts. We build endless cerebral constructions to house our information and our abilities. We pass from wide-eyed, open mouthed newbies to bored, enormously efficient social units performing endless repetitions of familiar tasks, traveling the same routes, enjoying the same pleasures, always hoping the same hope that we can get to someplace better.
It is not surprising that we get old. The heavy metals and damaging compounds in our air, our water, our soil, and the food chain end up in us one meal and one breath at a time repeated into the thousands. The toxic assault takes its toll, the damage accumulates and the burden slowly becomes too great to bear and the body begins to fail. Because I am nearing the age of sixty, I now know something about this.
There is no magic solution to physical aging yet, but one is coming. In the likely future, and not too many trips around the sun from now, your descendants will probably live into the hundreds and possibly a thousand years. Fortunately, there is also a way to be free from the effects of a mental and psychological decline in youthfulness, and we need not wait for this fix. I’m not talking about that extra glass of wine, plastic surgery, or a tattoo.
When you are free from thought and any emotional residue that has lingered within, you are ageless. You cannot erase the years of learning, experiencing, practicing, and conditioning; you cannot “unbelieve” the multitude of things you have accepted as true; but you can rise above this density into clear and open space. When you stop thinking, when you stop the reverberating emotions and become absolutely still, you become the eyes of the universe and you see it all open mouthed and wide-eyed again.
