Your special person may love you, your children and parents may love you, surely your dog loves you, but God does not love you. Our idea of love is too narrow to apply to God. For us, there is the one who does the loving and those, or those things, that are the objects or recipients of the love. Our love is petty and particular, it is given or withheld, and it is fickle and it can fade. The spectrum of our love relationships ranges from intoxicating, romantic obsession at one end to the selfless unconditional devotion of Mother Theresa at the other; from loving our god to loving our favorite dessert. This isn’t what God does.
The phenomenon we would all call God radiates a pure, perfect, and impersonal love in much the same way our local star radiates light. This energy is experienced as an absolutely transcendent form of love that is far beyond our human emotion, and unlike anything we can experience in our organic lives. So, while God doesn’t "love" you, God is truth, beauty, and love far beyond the reach of your most expansive imagination.
